All of us at times doubt ourselves. That is a healthy sign of self-examination. Should I take this job? Should I stay in this job? Should I marry this person? Should I engage in a particular activity? Likewise, we must question our faith at times. When confronted with enormous evil in our life or the world around us, or the randomness of who lives and who dies, or the success of evil people compared to the lack of success of good ones, we are tempted to say that God must be a joke. Today’s reading from Ezekiel reminds us that belief in God’s power over death (and everything less important) is ultimate, and part of the faith in which Jesus was raised.
