CAPS
By St Mary Administrator @ 9:21 AM :: 101 Views :: Article Rating :: Church News
CAPS—Catholic Association of Port Washington & Saukville—our planning group from our parish councils met on August 20. We continued our discussion regarding how best to ease the administrative burdens of the priests when our cluster is reduced to two priests next June. We are looking at a position of Business Administrator or Director of Administrative Services. Joe Bird who currently serves as Parish Manager for the Holy Family Catholic Community in Fond du Lac spoke to the group regarding his roles and responsibilities. He spoke to the group for about an hour and summed up his role as “keeping the parish running and letting the priests be priests.”

The Bible Corner
By St Mary Administrator @ 9:01 AM :: 100 Views :: Article Rating :: Church News
Here are some facts that perhaps you do not know. For the last 200 years gifted scholars in Europe and America have learned more about the Bible than was found for thousands of years before. They studied the languages in which it was written and the ancient cultures from which it came. A new way of analyzing and interpreting the biblical text has been discovered and perfected. At first Catholics and other Christians backed off, Pope Leo XIII broke the ice with a cautious appreciation. Pope Pius XII, in 1943 wrote a document called “Through the Inspiration of the Holy Spirit”, saying that Catholic Scholars should employ the tools of modern biblical research. In 1965 Vatican Council II affirmed this truth and ushered in the greatest renewal of interest in the bible that the Roman Catholic Church has ever seen. Let’s start with the following fact.

Reflections
By St Mary Administrator @ 8:40 AM :: 106 Views :: Article Rating :: Church News
On June 1, 1980, at the old airport on the edge of Paris, Pope John Paul II gently chided the French Catholic Church: “Are you faithful to the promises of your baptism?” We can apply the same question to our own lives.

The right to baptism involves three duties: to learn the faith, to live the faith, to bear witness to the faith. Since we have the tradition of infant baptism, the parents must know this and be willing to fulfill these duties. If the parents are ignorant of this or just not doing what they are supposed to, baptism is tragic: for the child, who will not grow in virtue; for the parents, who are faithless; for the church (that is, Christ) which is being deceived.

A priest notes that there are more entries of baptisms than there are records of First Communions, seven or eight years later. Baptism is a ceremony proclaiming Christian faith.

SOCIAL JUSTICE: Voting for the Common Good
By St Mary Administrator @ 10:06 AM :: 188 Views :: Article Rating :: Social Justice
In November, we Catholics will be called upon to exercise our privilege of voting for our country’s leaders. The ongoing discussion by candidates for leadership should be based on how we as Americans can work together to defend the life and dignity of the human person, and tend to the needs of the poor and vulnerable in our society. Catholic Social Teaching is clear on this call, rooted in the understanding that every human being is created in the image of God.
