SOCIAL JUSTICE: Breaking Faith with Nuclear Weapons
By St Mary Administrator @ 8:06 AM :: 291 Views :: Article Rating :: Human Concerns

Our government also refuses to renegotiate treaties with Russia that would limit the deployment of nuclear weapons. Other countries would be rational in thinking that we have no interest in adhering to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) to work toward nuclear disarmament, strengthening arguments in favor of developing and testing these weapons by leaders and politicians in places such as India and North Korea.

If we believe that this approach makes no sense and that nuclear weapons are no longer useful to defend the U.S., there are several actions we can take: First of all, inform ourselves about this issue; secondly, write Congress today and tell our legislators to reject plans for funding new nuclear bombs and to honor our treaty obligations. Thirdly, aware that although we have the power to end life, only God has the authority, we can pray for an end to nuclear madness. As religious people, we can be a voice of hope for the future while performing the prophetic task of warning powerful institutions like our government to change their course.
