Tax collectors were not popular in Jesus’ time. For one thing they worked for the Romans collecting taxes. For another, the way they made their money was to charge extra for their own wage. Some of the tax collectors were very rich, Zacchaues was one of these tax collectors.
Zacchaues was different though because he was looking for salvation, he even climbed up into a tree to see Jesus, you see he was a very short man. Jesus called him down form the tree and when Zacchaues invited him to his house Jesus went. Of course the observant Jewish people did not like this, they felt that one should not eat with sinners, tax collectors, or people that believed differently than they did.
Jesus saw that Zacchaues was looking for salvation, and because of this “change of heart Jesus raised him up as a model of salvation and he received the gift of reconciliation with God. This week think about something you have done that was wrong, (talked back to mom, dad, teachers, said something mean about someone, fought with your brother or sister) pray for a change of heart and seek reconciliation with the person you have wronged.
Last weeks answer is: Blessed are the meek ( c ) for they shall inherit the earth. This weeks question, The first book of the Old Testament is: a) Revelation b) Acts of the Apostles c) Jeremiah d) Genesis
