In today’s Gospel Jesus is talking to the Sadducees. They were a group of learned Jews who were literal interpreters of the written Law of Moses. They did not believe in resurrection, so they used the argument of their belief about marriage to prove there was not resurrection. Jesus argues from the same law to show that there is resurrection. Jesus’ response also shows us that sometimes we miss the most important things about what God has planned for us because we get stuck in details of our lives. How busy we are, how much homework we have to do… Jesus wants us to open our hearts and minds to the awesome possibilities. God has so much in store for us not just this life we have now, but in the next life where we will share a deeper, eternal relationship with God.
