On Holy Thursday, Her Lady's Singers will sing Robert Ramsey's motet "In Monte Oliveti" in what will likely be the first-ever performance in Wisconsin. Ramsey was organist at Trinity College in Cambridge, England from 1628 until 1644. The work has recently been published in "Cantiones Sacrae: Madrigalian Motets from Jacobean England" edited by Ross Duffin, as volume 142 of Recent Researches in the Music of the Renaissance by A-R Editions (in 2006) in Middleton, and used with their kind permission. The Latin text means: On the Mount of Olives he prayed to the Father: Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me. The spirit indeed is willing, for the desires of the flesh are against the spirit. Thy will be done.
