This unique environment supports each resident’s efforts to reach her goals. Upon exiting SCR they are asked to complete a survey about reaching their goals. In 2007 seventy-five percent report achieving their educational goals; 80% accomplish employment goals; 71% report financial stability; 95% reached personal goals.
SCR serves over 200 women each year and in 2006-2007 sixty-seven percent had incomes under $10,000 a year; and eighty-eight percent had incomes under $15,000. Some of our residents struggle with health issues; 15% were homeless and have a disability when they came to St. Catherine Residence; 31% live at SCR because they are seeking a safe environment.
Established in 1894 by the Sisters of Mercy, St. Catherine Residence has provided safe, affordable and friendly housing and service to women as well as adapting to the times and current needs of our residents. Our original Residence was on what is now the Marquette University Campus. We have been at our current location, 1032 E. Knapp Street in downtown Milwaukee since 1966.
