Dear Fellow Parishioners:

With the urging of Father Tom and the realization of rising energy costs, the Administrative Services committee has been looking at ways to cut heating costs. The church is presently being heated by 2 Cleaver-Brooks boilers located in the school. The steam travels from the school to the church through a tunnel under the street. In order to heat the church, the school has to be heated first. This takes about 3 hours, and when school isn’t in session (i.e. weekends and Christmas Break) this is a big waste of energy and money.

We have been researching a stand-alone system for the church with at least 92% efficiency. We have received several quotes, and spoken with each contractor along with a representative from Franklin Energy, to select the best proposal. At this point we have selected a contractor and have requested the proxy from the Archdiocese. Now, we need to start raising money to pay for the project. The cost for the installation of the 2 new boilers including new cabinet heaters and new piping totals around $50,000. We are pleased to tell you that we have already raised about 20% of the funds with a second collection, bake sale, fish fry, and several individual parishioner donations. We are also getting an energy-saving rebate from Franklin Energy.

This project will begin as soon as we can shut down the present steam system and will be completed before we need to heat the church again. Please consider a tax-deductible donation to this worthwhile project. All donations can be sent to Kim in the Parish Center. Any surplus we receive will go toward replacing the heating system in the Parish Center.

Thank you for your continued generous support of St. Mary’s.
