Kim Glynn also spoke about the financial trouble the parish is in. The school subsidy is one month behind. Upgrades have been made to the school lighting in an effort to save energy.
Doug Miller thanked everyone at the meeting for their dedication to the parish and encouraged everyone to talk to family and friends and invite them back to St. Mary’s.
-Liturgy/Worship: Sally Sharbuno said this committee is made up of eight members. They plan all liturgical activities in the parish. The 9:00 am Sunday Mass is recorded and rebroadcast on a local cable TV channel.
-Port Catholic: Fr. Tom said he’s very happy to be at a parish with a school. He stated that the school is a very important ministry that deserves our support. He feels the school is very successful, which is proven through its twenty year history.
-Stewardship: Bob Henkle indicated the committee currently has eight members and meets on the 2nd Thursday of the month. They strive to reenergize the existing parishioners. New parishioners are contacted by a member of the committee. He said the Parishioner Profiles in the bulletin will be an ongoing feature.
Katie Hoeller (Director of parish finances from the Archdiocese): She spoke in much detail about how parish and archdiocese finances work. Each parish is a separate entity from the Arch, and the Arch cannot touch parish assets. Up to this point, no parish has held any liability in any clergy abuse case- the Arch has solely been responsible for paying any legal settlements and no parishioner, church contributions go the Arch for the purpose of paying any settlements. In the event the Arch files for bankruptcy, all nonessential services would be cut.
