In November and December we made 27 home visits. Most visits were in response to calls for help with WE energy bill or rent. During 1 visit we determined that help would be inappropriate. One involved supportive conversation only. Two others were in response to an immediate need for a tank of gas. Four were for furniture and 2 for clothing from our store. All others were either rent or WE energy costs. We wrote checks for slightly over $2,300 and Salvation Army vouchers for $1,850. January has continued in a similar vein. Today, February 2, we’ll visit a man in an empty apartment; we’ll put some furniture in it for him. So it goes, month after month, year after year. We see Jesus in the eyes of the poor. Each visit is a humbling and sometimes emotional experience.
