Leadership For St. Mary’s
By St Mary Administrator @ 2:25 PM :: 200 Views :: Article Rating :: Church News

Qualities for parish leadership: how can we know if we are called to serve God’s people as a parish leader? When the parish community calls forth leadership to determine goals and form policies for all aspects of parish life, those who respond should be persons who have mature, lively faith which always seeks to do what is best for the good of the parish, relate to others in the group. Prayerfulness, willingness to grow trust and pastoral attitudes are also important.

What does Parish Council do? The parish Council, which meets monthly on the first Thursday, has the responsibility to determine the direction of the parish, oversee its pastoral activity and temporal affairs and challenge the parish to grow in response to the Gospel. The council has nine elected members and three ex-Officieo members (the pastor and two lay trustees). After the discernment of new members, the council chooses liaisons to each of the council committees and discerns officers. The role of the parish trustees is to oversee the parish’s civil and legal matters.

May 9/10 will be Leadership Nomination Sunday. At all liturgies, parish members will have the opportunity to nominate parishioners to serve in leadership positions: four for parish council, one for the school board, and one for trustee-secretary. Please spend some time in the coming weeks prayerfully thinking of those you feel are gifted by the Holy spirit to serve in this ministry of leadership remember, you may also nominate yourself.) Nominees must be baptized, registered parishioners 18 years of age or older. (Trustees must be 25 years of age.) All nominees will be notified by letter and asked to attend an orientation session before making the decision to accept candidacy and participating in the final discernment process. Please continue to pray for the selection of good leadership in our parish.
