This past Wednesday, our parish staffs—from our three-parish cluster—gathered for a day of reflection and renewal as we move into working together. Our staff has the same questions, fears, and hopes as most of our parishioners as we embark on this new configuration of our parishes and personnel. We took time to acknowledge that we don’t have the answers to all questions about how this will work out. The most important part of the day was the time together, time to listen to each other and begin to understand each other. This is a good model for all of us in this time of transition. If we are to be effective in continuing the ministry of Jesus, we need to take time with each other, listen to each other, acknowledge our fears, share our hopes, and plan with confidence for our future. I’ve seen lots of moving around, new faces at different places as we adjust to the new Mass schedule; it is good for all of us to recognize we are in this together as we move forward and plan for the future of Catholic ministry in our area.
