Communal Anointing
By St Mary Administrator @ 10:28 AM :: 206 Views :: Article Rating :: Church Events

The weekend of October 24 and 25 at all the Masses, there will be the Communal Anointing of the sick. The Sacrament of the Sick (Extreme Unction, Last Rites) according to the Second Vatican Council is not a Sacrament for only those at the point of death. As soon as any one of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the appropriate time has arrived for him/her to receive this Sacrament. Pope Paul VI, when he approved the new rite in 1972 expressed concern that those who are sick due to sickness and/or old age receive this Sacrament. When a person is facing serious surgery, the Sacrament can be received as a help to face this situation. Pope Paul made special mention of the aged, who may be in a weakened condition although no dangerous illness is present. Those who wish to be anointed are asked to sit at the end of the pew and have their hands extended.
