Feed my Starving Children Project Update. Our parish cluster human concerns committee is spearheading a wonderful Ozaukee County project. Last year, for our Lenten outreach, we raised $2500 for Feed My Starving Children, a Minnesota-based Christian organization, that packs and ships nutritious, yet inexpensive meal packets for starving children around the world. The meal is a formula designed by food scientists to meet the needs of severely malnourished children, and provides the key nutrients a starving child needs to survive and thrive—rice, soy protein, 20 vitamins and minerals, dehydrated vegetables, and vegetarian chicken flavor. One meal costs only 17 cents, and we plan to pack and ship 100,000 meals from Ozaukee County.
The meals we pack are then cooked with boiling water at sites operated by Christian mission partners, orphanages, clinics, humanitarian relief centers, and schools, in more than 60 countries world-wide----Haiti, Liberia, Peru, Ghana, Columbia, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe, to name a few. FMSC packed and shipped 73 million meals in 2008, using 312,000 volunteer packers.
It takes hundreds of volunteers to pack 100,000 meals. We also need to raise $17,000 to pay for the meals. Our Human Concerns Committee has been working on this for over a year, and we are now at the point where we want to invite to parishioners to help with donations and/or packing. We have raised $4,500 so far—enough for about 25,000 meals.
We have teamed up with Portal Industries, and so the volunteer packing will take place at Portal Industries, in Grafton, on April 8-11, 2010. (Times will be listed in a future bulletin). This is Easter week, when many young people will be on school vacation and may be able to participate in this fun and energizing experience for all ages. The meals are prayed over, by the volunteers, before being shipped, asking for God's protection and blessing for the shipment. Fifteen volunteers can pack 4,000 meals in just two hours!
With your help, we will show how God works through this event. I hope that you will be able to join us in this extraordinary project. For further information about the project, please contact me by email (linda.gottlieb@sbcglobal.net), or phone (home 262-284-7288, cell 414-688-6462).
