St. Elizabeth Ann Seton was born in New York City in 1774. She grew up in a well to do Episcopalian family, but was lonely. Her mother died when she was a little girl. She went to finishing school, attended elegant balls and dances. In 1794 she married William Seton, they had 5 children. William became ill with tuberculosis and the family traveled to Italy in hope of a cure. Unfortunately, he died shortly after they arrived in Italy. Elizabeth was taken in by Catholic friends of William. She grew to love the Catholic faith, soon after returning to America she and her children became Catholics. Many of her friends were angry and shunned her, but Elizabeth remained strong. She started several schools and orphanages and is considered one of the cofounders of the parochial-Catholic school system in America. She is the first Saint that was born on the United States.
Have a blessed week
