We will be doing Summer with the Saints for Children's Corner over the summer.
This week's Saint is St. Katherine Drexel, The Millionaire Nun. St. Katherine was born in 1858. She was born into a very rich family. They lived in a mansion in Philadelphia. Her mother died when she was two days old. Her father remarried a wonderful woman who helped the poor whenever she could. In 1887 her father and step mother died. The heiress became a nun in1889. She was known as the world's richest nun. She built schools for native Americans and African Americans all over the United States. She started Xavier University, the only college for blacks in the U.S. In all she gave away twenty million dollars. She died in 1955 at the age of 99. She was declared a Saint on Oct. 1, 2000.
