This week’s Saint is St. Maximilian Kolbe. He was a Franciscan priest who lived in Poland before World War II and had a lot of courage. He always wanted to spread the word and the love of Jesus through out the world and used all the newest inventions to do it. Then the Nazi's invaded, and life would never be the same again. The Nazi's persecuted millions of Jews, but also others who defied them or spoke against them. Fr. Maximilian was outspoken and was soon arrested. In the prison camp the Nazi's were going to punish the prisoners by killing 10 prisoners. One of the prisoners began to cry and said, "I'll never see my wife and children again." Fr. Maximilian offered himself in his place. The prisoners were put in a room and left to die of starvation. The prisoner for whom Fr. gave his life was able to see his family again and lived to be an old man. Fr. Maximilian truly made the brave choice to put another before himself. His Feast Day is August 14.This is the last week of Summer with the Saints. I hope you enjoyed it and learned a little something about the saints.
Have a Blessed Week!
