SOCIAL JUSTICE: The Common Good

we will be asked to fulfill our civic duty and vote. As faithful Catholics, grounded in scripture and tradition, we know that our civic choices must reflect the fullness of our faith and our commitment to the common good. We cannot let partisan agendas distract us from urgent threats to the common good, which include increasing economic burdens on the American family, wars that seems to have no end, children who live in poverty within our own borders, huge deficits, global warming, and a lack of effective policies to build a culture of life.
We seek a culture that resists rampant greed and materialism in our corporate, political and family spheres. We believe that public officials should put the good of the nation ahead of private gain. Our cherished democratic principles should be considered ahead of profiteering and political pandering, and our nation restored to its deepest democratic values. Think and pray about whom you entrust with the responsibility to lead our community, state and nation – our electoral decisions also affect people across the globe. As faithful Catholics, we are called to promote justice and defend human dignity … called to the common good!
